Show up for yourself everyday of your life
Some years ago, I worked, as a consultant with a multi-level marketing company, there would be days when I had no appointments in my book. Many of those days I would sit around, moping, and feeling sorry for myself. I am reminded of one time when I was feeling particularly blue, and having nowhere to go, I just sat around in my PJs watching TV, munching on snacks, enjoying my private pity party. Sometime midday, my doorbell rang. Not expecting anyone and thinking it was perhaps the UPS man, I lethargically moseyed to door. To my surprise, there stood a prospective client who I had been trying to connect with for weeks. There I stood, hair in disarray, coffee breath, and mascara still bleeding from my lashes the day before (did I tell you I was in the business of personal care and cosmetics?) I hesitated, but summoned the nerve to invite her in, of course using the excuse that I was under the weather. I offered the woman a cup of coffee and handed her some literature to read over, while I politely retreated in order to pull myself together. I vowed that day- to never, ever be caught in that position again and if no one ever showed up for a meeting, a demonstration, interview, lunch or whatever… “I would show up for myself.”
Start now by showing up for yourself:
Nurture your strengths
Most people that accomplish great things realize that they can’t do everything.
“Our strengths are our tools, our personal reality. Our weaknesses are only what we are not.”
- Joe Batten
Manage your time
I have found that when I mismanage my time, it is because I have mismanaged myself. I am a recovering “please disease”, “nobody does it better” “manic multi-tasking”, “give me guilt” princess.
“If you deliberately plan to be less than you are capable of being, then I warn you that you’ll be unhappy for the rest of your lives. You’ll be evading your own capacities, your own possibilities.”
- Abraham Maslow
You must maximize your potential! If you are breathing right now, then it is imperative that you move beyond self-imposed limitations. The world needs your gifts and talents. Don’t you wonder sometimes why you’re still here? It’s all in possibilities…
LEADERSHIP: TRANSFORMING ACTS TO FOLLOW!
I have worked alongside many folks in leadership positions during the past twenty-six years; and I must say that my biggest disappointment has been when leaders’ actions did not match their words. I have been among those who were not confident in themselves and mistrusting of those who reported to them, those who have taken another’s idea and made it their own, those who placed blame rather than accept responsibility and those who preferred to provide an answer rather than direction. This type of “so called” leader will not survive in today’s workplace. Today’s business climate calls for a leader with the ability to employ strategies that will bring the best out of each person in the organization resulting in employee satisfaction and continued economic growth.
I have also been fortunate to work with several leaders who “really get it!” and I have learned a few things-
Transformational leadership requires:
